No band ever captured the freewheeling, exuberant zaniness of the 1920s better than Irving Aaronson and His Commanders. In press releases, Aaronson emphasized again and again that his was an "entertaining band," one which had a full complement of comedy, eccentric dancing, and unique vocal stylings in addition to first-rate dance music. Even with the passage of many decades, the records made by Aaronson and company are still dynamic, lively fun. They're so exciting, and they capture the spirit of the Twenties so well, that modern-day filmmakers frequently use them to instantly create that "Jazz Age" atmosphere. More than eighty years after its heyday, Aaronson's group is still an entertaining band. This disc, the second of four containing the band's complete recorded output in chronological order, traces Aaronson's Commanders from mid-1928 (in the midst of the band's appearance in the Broadway smash Paris) through end of 1932, when the original incarnation of the Commanders broke up.
