Only coffee from the Kona Districts can take the name “Kona”. Be leary, as Kona blends can have as little as 10% authentic Kona beans, whereas we offer only 100% Kona single-origin beans.   The coffee plant was introduced to Kona in 1828 by Samuel Reverend Ruggles from Brazilian cuttings. Greenwell farms, a legacy started by Henry Nicholas Greenwell in 1850, is located on 250 acres in the middle of the Kona district and is one of the oldest and largest coffee producers in Kona.   The berries are grown on the western slopes of the volcano in rich soil filled with nutrients. The location and environment provide ideal growing conditions with perfect altitude, gentle rainfall, and consistent sunshine.
