Alocasia dragon scale, or Alocasia Baginda dragon scale, originates from the tropical forests of Borneo. The plant’s rib textured leaves resemble the broad scales of the magnificent creature to which it references. Young leaves are light green in color but gradually deepen to a majestic emerald green as they mature. This handsome specimen thrives best in a well-draining potting mix. Place the plant in bright but indirect sunlight to prevent leaf scorch. As a tropical plant, it likes humidity but not too much. Before watering, check that the upper 2 to 3 inches of the soil is dry before doing so to prevent soggy soil and fungal growth. With the right care, a flourishing dragon scale can grow up to 3 feet tall and spread about 1.6 feet wide. It grows actively in the summer months and enters dormancy during winter.
