About the Poster Long Live the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army - the Faithful Guard of the Soviet Borders (Russian: Да здравствует рабоче-крестьянская Красная Армия – верный страж советских границ) is a 1935 propaganda poster by Gustav Klutsis (Russian: Густав Клуцис). In the poster, overlooking a massive Red Army parade on Red Square in Moscow are Stalin and Kliment Voroshilov, then People's Commissar for Defense of the Soviet Union. Voroshilov was one of the original five Marshals of the Soviet Union and would later serve as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet while Nikita Khrushchev was General Secretary. Voroshilov played a central role in Stalin's Great Purge in the 1930s, betraying and denouncing countless officers.
