About the Poster We Will Defend Moscow! (Russian: Отстоим Москву!) is a 1941 Soviet propaganda poster created by Nikolay Zhukov and Victor Klimashin (Николай Жуков and Виктор Климашин). By the fall of 1941, German troops were at the outskirts of Moscow. In October, Zhukov and Klimashin, realizing the importance of preventing the capture of the capital, in just one night painted this image to symbolize the courage needed to defend the city.  The poster depicts a Red Army soldier against the backdrop of the Kremlin. The soldier himself is giant and extends beyond the borders of the poster. His figure resembles that of an epic hero - he is more than the material world can frame. High on emotional enthusiasm, the soldier himself utters the titled line, "We will defend Moscow!" He stands firm and resolute. Behind him in the distance are Soviet planes as if to convey that more resources and reinforcements are on
