The Société Protectrice des Animaux, is France's oldest animal protection association. Formed in 1845, the symbolic head of this organization was Marianne. Medals created to celebrate this organization and the people who supported it featured Marianne surrounded by the animals she had vowed to protect. This example from 1897 is rare in both quality and design. The 1 5/8" silver-plated bronze medal has been prong set in sterling silver and mounted on an adjustable six inch sterling silver cuff with a one inch gap.
