The North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park lived up to the hype during a hike last October. Of course, catching this subject on a crisp, sunny autumn day helped, too. For me, fall hikes serve a dual purpose: First, get some spectacular inspiration for my painting. Then head to the nearest ice cream shop and enjoy a well-earned chocolate waffle cone. Fortunately, I wasn't far from Bryson City, North Carolina after wrapping up this day and there were plenty of good options.
