Black Walnut Giraffe

This dark and beautiful giraffe is an original design and hand-carved out of Black Walnut wood. Makes an excellent desk ornament, shelf decoration, or fidget (though consistent handling may require refinishing with clear polyurethane).  I am very proud of the pattern on this piece, even more than any giraffes I have carved before. I made the spots much more subtle, so you can actually see the woodgrain a little better. I love how the design works so well with a wood species with such a strong woodgrain pattern. I also freehanded the face a little more than usual, and it gave the piece a regal, imperious expression that I love.
