Boro Kasuri Japanese Antique Futonji Blanket

This is a futon cover that was made from 絣 kasuri, double 伊方染 ikat dyed fabric, made in 3 panels and patched with various textiles of different styles and colors. Boro 襤褸 is a Japanese form of recycling coming from an economic necessity in which fabric is patched on the reverse side to preserve the usability.  The beauty comes from the unintentional artistry created from layers of mending.
