The CAC has been a Cincinnati institution since 1939. "In 1939 . . . one could not truthfully say that Cincinnati was marching in the vanguard of modern art movements . . . the attitude of the general public of Cincinnati roughly approximated that of New York at the time of the Armory show . . . the worlds of Klee or even Picasso were pretty far away . . .
