The panels for Lobster Tail Jackets are all individually lined and bias-bound, before assembling with flat lapped seams. Because bias binding can not be used to edge sharp corners, all the panels are rounded. Rounded tails can not be sewn together into a flat edge, so the four tails of the jacket have a distinctive scalloped shape, like a lobster’s tail. It is lined to just below the pocket edge, and are unlined in the tails. Wool baize fabrics are heavily finished thick wool cloths traditionally woven for insulating and sound proofing. Doors were often covered with baize to keep out the chill, or to stop sound from servants' quarters carrying above stairs, and the backstage 'green room' was so called for the green baize fabric tacked to the walls to stop sound from being heard front of house.
