6 in. Antique Singing Bowl in C

A very fine and rare antique singing bowl, this example has a very refined shape. It shows some evidence of outward folding at the rim, despite its thin shape. Sharing hallmarks of both early and late styles, it seems to be a transitional piece. It also shows that thinner bowls were acheiveable with the folded construction. This would seem to be an innovation since ealier folded bowls were never made so thin. The result is a very symmetrical shape and wonderful deep tone for the size. The surface is a smooth soft bronze color but under manification, surface lines and small marks betray its true age.
