Led by star forward Billy Owens Syracuse entered the 1990-1991 season ranked inside the Top 15. Jim Boeheim's squad didn't disappoint, going 12-4 in the BIG EAST, winning the conference regular season title and climbing all the way to #3 in the polls. The Orange entered the NCAA Tournament as the #2 seed in the East Region where they would be upset by 15-seed Richmond. Owens was named BIG EAST Player of the Year and a consensus All-American after averaging 23 points and 12 rebounds a game.
