1960s Red and Black Wool Suit by Rose Bertin of Zurich Size 8
Rose Bertin was the dress maker to Marie Antoinette and the French Nobility. She barely made out of Paris during the French Revolution. In 1949 2 Swiss businesswomen got the rights to Rose Bertie’s name and opened a Haute Couture House in Zurich. They imported the latest French fashions and copied them for their clients. This wool suit is made of the finest wool done in the harlequin diamond pattern. The jacket is designed in the straight boxy look which means it comes straight down not coming in at the waist. 2 epaulets at the shoulders give it interest. The sleeves are what they called glove length which meant that they are shorter to show of the gloves which were usually decorated especially with embroidery.. 2 rows of gold buttons come down the front. The buttons are how the jacket closes. There is a wide band above the hem which is pure decorative. Skirt is knee length and is also straight with a slight flair. The skirt has 2 zipper for closure a haute couture design element. Me
