1950’s Mary O’Donnell Silk Aquamarine Blue Evening Dress Size 0/2
Mary O’Donnell was one of Ireland’s couture houses. Her brother sponsored her to come to New York to go to school for fashion design. She would go to all the flea markets In Dublin and surrounding area looking for Irish Crochet lace and use it on her dresses. This dress is from her early days dating from about 1958, making it rarer. Made of silk with a silk organza overlay. The bodice is cotton which is embroidered with vines and leaves in aquamarine and flowers in pink, green, lavender and peach. There is a butterfly and bee. There is a ruffle of the organza at the top of the bodice.. 2 spaghetti straps hold up the dress. Zips up the back for closure. Measures as follows Bust 34, Waist 20.5 Hips 38, Length 51 the rib cage is small on this dress excellent condition. This dress would make a great collector piece because Mary just passed and her work is less known especially her early works.
