Tokkuri, country ware

Utilitarian, well proportioned earthenware tokkuri  resembling Mino ware, and brushed in iron oxide with grass leaf motif design common in Karatsu area, where acquired. Mouth, neck and shoulder drips an Oribe-style glaze adding distinctive rustic interest. Probably late Edo or early Meiji period.
