An HL Leonard model 39M-5 bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial #434. Built in 1979 during the Maxwell period. The rod weighs 4 ounces on my scale. Medium to faster action for a #5. Very light use with just a hint of brassing to the interior of the guides and a little edgewear to the cap and ring oxidation (which is about 98% intact). There are no casting cracks to the ferrule wraps or edgewear to the ferrules. Blonde cane done in a three up node pattern. The varnish is superb. The main wraps are a honey color with maroon edges at the keeper with brown wraps at the ferrules and tip top. The step ferrules have the classic Maxwell Leonard pewter oxidized color. The grip is 5 1/2" long and shaped to a slim cigar profile. The reel seat is a mortised and varnished piece of curly maple with a pewter oxidized cap and ring (with a tiny bit of the aforementioned edgewear). The rod is factory straight with perfectly fitting ferrules. The rod packs into a tan cloth
