1616 / Arita Porcelain Chrysanthemum Plates
1616 / Arita is a contemporary brand of porcelain tableware that finds its roots in the 400-year old tradition of Arita-yaki. Designer Teruhiro Yanagihara developed this new series of ceramics using the traditional technique of clay made of crushed stone but with a different composition, which resulted in a high-density porcelain that makes the pottery extremely strong and heat and stain-resistant, even without glaze. This series of versatile plates are based on the chrysanthemum motif, one of Japan's most important and symbolic flowers. The unglazed finish creates a graceful and sophisticated feel that is equally satisfying to touch as it is to eat off of.
