The Way of the Spartans... In ancient Sparta, young men were raised from birth to become strong and determined warriors. At the age of seven, they entered into a rigorous education, military training, and socialization program called the Agoge. This program was created to instill duty, discipline, endurance, courage, and self control into the young warriors. These boys would train daily throughout their childhoods, all the way up until the time that they were adults. At this point, they had one more test laid out in front of them... to prove that they were worthy of the Spartan title that they had been raised to achieve their entire lives. These soon to be Spartans were faced with physical, mental, and spiritual challenges such as wearing a single cloak year round, surviving barefoot, and being sent into the woods to test their survival skills and to forge them into the warriors that they were destined to become.
