This is an exceptionally finely made Double X quilt (aka Old Maid's Puzzle). It is in outstanding, unwashed condition. The fabrics are well chosen and blend perfectly together. The border is a rich brown chintz that never had a glaze. The triangles on either side of the wide border are an excellent continuation of the triangles of the interior. Half blocks create a nice inner frame. The quilt measures a generous 92" x 96". It is from Pennsylvania; made 1870's.
