This is the latest beautiful surprise we've cut from some of our old stock stone.  The finished result is one of the most visually appealing slabs from this fabulous Washington state petrified wood deposit that I've finished yet!  The wood grain from this ancient conifier is exceptionally tight and cut as a rip cut (with the grain) to reveal countless growth rings in the mirror polished, gemmy face.  This beautifully detailed slab is a rip cut petrified wood specimen carved from a fragment of what must have been an enormous ancient conifer tree!  Part of the external texture of the log is visible on the back of the slab where it tapers on the lower edge to reveal the texture as the stone was found.  Look closely at the upper edge of the stone and you will see numerous ovals and circles that represent fossil roots that grew as secondary specimens along and under the fallen log, many of them embedded in what appears to be the petrified gemmy remnants of an organic mass of partially decay
