Central Park West

I was influenced by jazz while creating it, specifically Coltrane, hence the title. I hope you can sense the musicality. It was one of my first breakthrough drawings, meaning it is one he was proud of at an early age. (2001) I was studying at Missouri State at the time under Zhi Lin. This was his second large scale abstract drawing. At that period, I was heavily influenced by improvisational jazz, particularly Coltrane. There was a starting point, and then the picture evolved from that. There wasn't a specific end destination. I recall my first impression of it was huge because it was the first time I understood the sense of space in an abstract work. This piece has meaning to me as well for that reason.
