American Empire Gilt Wood Wall Mirror (c. 1830)

Description This is a large, heavy, mirror from the American Empire period, hand crafted around 1830. It has its original mirror glass and gilt wood finish. This was a period when furniture and decorative objects assumed classical architectural details such as pediments, columns, capitals, and frieze designs. The ornamentation here is baskets of plenty and acorns -- signs of hope and prosperity in the still relatively young United States.   A note on the condition: This mirror definitely shows its age. The mirror glass has lost much of its silvering, the gilt finish is worn in places, and all but six acorn finials are missing. However, we wouldn't touch it. It looks gloriously ancient, as is.
