Magnolia Seed Pod
Magnolia seed pods (Ours are from Magnolia grandiflora) are really durable, and stand up very well to the humid vivarium environment, lasting a very long time. With their very "woody" composition, they actually tolerate submersion nicely, being useful for tadpoles as a foraging area. Initially after introduction to the humid vivarium environment, they might get a little bit of mold or fungus on their surfaces. Not to worry- after a relatively brief time, they recruit large numbers beneficial microfauna, such as springtails and other insects, isopods, etc., which clean it right up, and also perform valuable services keeping the substrate clean and free of excessive mites and such! PREPARATION: Really, a good rinse with warm water is optimum, just to remove any surface dirt and such from the pods.
