Meet your guide on the cruise pier and walk along the sea-front to Tyholmen. Tyholmen is the oldest part of Arendal. It is located on the small peninsula in the southeast corner of the city and offers charming houses and alleys. Tyholmen was granted nature reserve status in 1975 and is known for its efforts to combine preservation with adaptation to modern use. Tyholmen consists of an 'upper' and a 'lower' part, where merchants and shipowners lived near the sea, while craftsmen, sailors and day labourers lived in the smaller houses up on the hill. Today the lower part is mainly hotels, cafes and restaurants, while the upper part is still mainly residential. Take the new Glass Lift to ascend to the viewpoint and enjoy the bird-eye-view of Arendal. Descend to the Old Town and walk to the Trinity Church for an exterior view and then walk through Tyholmen Arendal's Old Town to the City Hall.
