He had many of his chess problems published in Staunton’s The Chess Player’s Chronicle, and The Illustrated London News. Cook served as President of the New Jersey Chess Association and assumed the post for problem department in The Chess Monthly. At the time, Paul Morphy was the editor of the games section.
