Aglianico del Vulture
An explosion of flavor! About the design: Aglianico is the pride of Southern Italy. It is a late ripening, thick skinned grape that produces full bodied wines with bold tannins, notes of spiced plum, black cherry, white pepper as well as hints of smoke & can be a bit gamey too. Basiliata is a small, moutainous area located in the arch of Italy's boot. Within the region lies Monte Vulture (Vool-ture-ay) a long dormat volcano on the slopes of which grows the best Aglianico. Aglianico del Vulture was made a DOC in 1971, Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG was formed in 2010. The DOCG area is very small- only 220 acres. Superiore wine must be aged at least 12 months in oak, spend 1 year in the bottle & cannot be released until at least 3 years from its harvest date. Superiore Riserva must spend at least 24 months in oak, 1 year in the bottle & cannont be released until at least 5 years post harvest. The Grape Republic Co. t-shirts are made for wine geeks, by a wine geek. Each
