Cassata - Large, Reusable Tote

A bag that took 4 days to make and will last you years. This large handwoven market tote is made by Kathir and Padmini, a couple from the South Indian town of Kanchipuram. They hand-knot each bag in their spare hours after their day jobs, using recycled plastic wire - a material that is strong, washable, and keeps plastic out of landfill. The pattern is named - "Cassata" Growing up in the 90s, before the sundaes & banana splits, there was Cassata. Layers of pastel colored ice creams & slice of cake - it was the fanciest desert and my mother would always order it every time we went out on special occasions. This basket, with its playful interplay of pastel pink and green, brought that memory right back!
