The Madhubala Shirt
Madhubala — born Mumtaz Jehan Dehalvi — and Dilip Kumar fell in love on the sets of Tarana (1951). The actress was 18 at the time of the film’s release; Kumar was 29. In the film, they play two lovers whose romance is cursed by the people around them. It so happened that their real-life romance followed the same script. In his 2014 autobiography Dilip Kumar: The Substance and the Shadow, the actor shared why he was attracted to Madhubala. She was sprightly and vivacious and could easily draw Kumar out of his reticence. “She filled a void that was crying out to be filled,” the actor wrote in his book. Kumar and Madhubala went on to work in three other successful films — Sangdil (1952), Amar (1954), and the magnum opus Mughal-e-Azam (1960). On-screen, they shared a palpable chemistry, and off-screen, they were madly in love. • 100% ring-spun cotton • 4.5 oz/yd² (153 g/m²) • Shoulder-to-shoulder taping • Quarter-turned to avoid crease down the center • Blank product sourced from Banglad
