Namiki Yukari Royale - Night Scene of Pavilion 2008
The theme of the the Yukari Royale fountain pen line released between 2002 and 2008 is a rendition of a beautiful pavilion set deep in the mysterious Chinese mountains. Pavilions are customary in many Asian cultures’ artwork, not only for historical reference but also to symbolize the mysterious depth of the human mind.This hand-made pen features exquisite maki-e techniques, including Shishiai-Togidashi-Taka Maki-e by Michifumi Kawaguchi. The beautiful Night Scene of Pavilion was created through togidashi-taka maki-e techniques, consisting of a burnished-raised design applying a layer of lacquer, sprinkling gold or silver powder and drying with an additional lacquer layer to fix the powder. You will see that stunning combinations of silver and gold powder areused throughout the pen’s artwork with the traditional black lacquer accentuated with gold powder background.The Yukari Royale Night Scene of Pavilion later became a more regularly featured item in the Namiki line.
