Bangkok, the capital of Thailand is known for its ornate architecture, sacred temples and vibrant city life. The Chao Phraya River is a major river in Thailand that flows through Bangkok, allowing ease of transportation by ship. In this poster, we observe a ship calmly passing by a most serene backdrop. This poster is one of a series commissioned by American President Lines to promote travel by way of ship using their 50 port locations. The American President Lines was created in 1938, just prior to World War II, as a result of the renaming of the Dollar Steamship Lines which emerged from bankruptcy as APL. By 1940 the American Government commissioned 16 new ships, all to be named after American Presidents.
