This original vintage travel poster by Roger Broders was commissioned by the Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM) railway to promote travel to the historic city of Avignon in the south of France. Broders depicts the iconic Pont Saint-Bénézet in the foreground, with the majestic Palais des Papes rising behind it, bathed in warm Provençal light. The architecture is rendered in crisp, clean lines typical of Broders’ signature Art Deco style, while the simplified color palette evokes the heat and drama of the southern French landscape. Roger Broders (1883 – 1953) was a French illustrator and graphic artist best known for his iconic travel posters created during the 1920s and early 1930s.
