Ducretet Thomson - Skier on TV
This is an extremely rare poster by Bernard Villemot. It was created in 1964 to promote the clarity of the Thomson Ducretet television set, and highlights the broad range of Villemot's extensive talents. A highly stylized and detailed image of a skier projects out of the TV, onto an elegant and loosely drawn lounging woman. The loose linework on the reclining lady helps to contrast with the extremely clear image of the television, which we are told highlights the "purity of lines". Eugene Ducretet (1844 - 1915) founded his eponymous company in 1864 as an inventor and scientist in the very early years of radio development. Ducretet sold radios, phonographs, and telegraphs and was sold to Thomson in 1931. Thomson is a massive retailer of electronic consumer goods such as televisions, radios, and transmitters to this day. Bernard Villemot (1911-1989) was one of the foremost poster artists in the 1960’s and 1970’s, known for his innovative design and use of color. Born into a bourgeoi
