Help Get Him Through! Buy War Bonds
This poster design was commissioned by Abbott Labs, a medical products company that supplied the United States military forces in World War I and II. The text on the bottom of the poster reads "Published by Abbott Laboratories as a Contribution to the Treasury's Schools-At-War Program". This particular design emphasizes all citizens in the home front should bear their obligation to support the war effort by purchasing war bonds to help finance the war. The artist, Arthur Schnakenberg (b.1892) shows us a soldier making his way through the jungle in the Pacific, a region not typically depicted in American WWII posters. Dog tags out, shirt open, bayonet clearing the way; this mans bravery is the focus. Schnakenberg served in the U.S. Army during WWI, and was classically trained at New York’s famed Art Student’s League. His art is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of Art, the Chicago Museum, amongst others. This is an Original Vintage Poster;
