This poster for Italy was created by the gifted and prolific artist David Klein for TWA. The image by Klein features a beautiful view over Piazza San Marco (St. Marks Square) in Venice. Just beside the detailed San Marco Basilica on the left of the poster, the San Marco Campanile, the accompanying belltower is observed surrounded by birds and gives way to the glistening water off in the distance. The airplane featured in this poster is a propeller driven Constellation. Piazza San Marco is the most prominent public square in Italy and a popular tourist attraction. Within the square, the famous San Marco Basilica sits. The basilica, commonly known as St. Marks Church is a cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice. The building dates to the 11th century and is well known for its opulent design which features gold mosaics upon the façade.
