Dusk tinges the ski slopes a dreamy pink in this extremely rare poster created by the French railway, Chemin de Fer d'Alsace et de Lorraine to promote travel to the Vosges ski resort region, Le Markstein. A stylish skier, beret jauntily aside her head, takes in the the gorgeous view of hilly Vosges, a rural region of northeastern France. Le Markstein resort can be seen in the distance, and the slopes are quiet and uncrowded, leading to a sense of calm as the day of skiing comes to a close. Although this image has long been a darling of the rare ski poster world, there is interestingly very little known about the artist of this piece. Even his name is debatable; some interpret it as "Chauffard", while other scholars attribute it to "Choucard". The Art Deco movement was an offshoot of the groundbreaking 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts.
