This is one of a series of posters created for the Loterie Nationale (National Lottery) in France by a team of artists known as Derouet-Lesacq. In these posters, the element of simplicity is emphasized, allowing the artists to apply detail to the array of environments that these posters are set in. This colorful, Art Deco style poster is for a special drawing of the lottery. The theme of this lottery drawing is perfume. The image shows a woman jumping for joy over her massive bottle of perfume. The French Government promoted a nationwide lottery for many years, and during the 1930’s they commissioned artist Edgar Derouet to create many of their posters. Derouet realized his posters either alone or with one of his many collaborators. This poster is the result of a collaboration with Charles Lesacq, who worked with Derouet from 1938 to 1940. Edgar Derouet (1910-2001) is known for his simplistic, geometric and modern advertising posters for the French Lottery (Loterie Nationale).
