IX / XI (9/11 )
Mixed Media on canvas; attached to a slowly rotating motor. The photos are of the same piece, rotated. What began as an exploration of color, motion, and texture evolved into a work of remembrance. This rotating abstract painting reveals the Roman numeral “IX” (9) from one perspective and, when turned 180 degrees, becomes “XI” (11). Together, they form 9/11—a date permanently etched in our nation’s history. From the imagined vantage point of Ground Zero, the work reflects both the chaos of that day and the enduring resilience that followed. Its shifting form reminds us that while perspectives may change with time, the meaning of remembrance remains constant. This piece is respectfully dedicated to the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
