Tarbut
Tarbut means “culture” in Hebrew, and Hannukah has become an ever more important part of Jewish culture. It is technically one of the more minor religious holidays, but it is now a major part of the winter season for Jewish families and friends to come together to honor our shared culture. Plus Hanukkah’s increased cultural importance has made it a perfect holiday to share that culture and our traditions with non-Jewish family and friends. My stepfather started the tradition of lighting Hanukkah candles at his late wife’s family Christmas party every year, a tradition we carry on to this day.
