This title is a little misleading. While these parts of modern cruise ships look like classic smokestacks, they’re actually called funnels. And on Disney’s ships, only one of them is even a true exhaust funnel. The other is just for show—leaning into the look of a classic ocean liner to give its ships a timeless silhouette. It houses equipment, sound systems, and, in the newest ships, an enormous funnel suite. But all of that is just details. I'm sharing it today because I've watched DCL's latest beautiful commercial through tears a dozen times or more and I wanted us all to have this today. I woke up before dawn to capture it, first waiting on deck to photograph the sunrise and then wandering this area and a few others before anyone else was out and about. Taken with my 35mm, 1/250 second and f/8.0 to keep everything sharp and in focus, and then ISO 500 to make up for the light.
