Champleve is an old technique of enamel decoration of metal objects.  In this instance, the artisan incised designs on the background of an object . Enamel is applied and fired in the depressed areas. It differs from cloisonne where fired enamel colors coat the entire surface.  The form of this vase is a take off from Chinese ritual bronzes.  It is not quite right because it is a Japanese rendition,  but nicely done with dragon heads on the "ear" handles  A mark "Made in Japan: is incised into the bottom, giving it a date of 1920's and 1930's.   The dimensions are 6 inches in diameter and 10 inches high.   The condition is good with slight wear on objects of this age.
