The three legged toad is a popular icon in Chinese culture. It is a symbol for wealth. It originated from the story of Liu Hai, a Daoist Immortal who has a pet toad with three legs. The toad has a penchant of running off. To call it back, Lui Hai jingled a string of coins, which called to the toad to come back. The toad here is portrayed with a gold coin in its mouth and a string of gold coins on its back. The material is zisha clay from Yixxing, and it is hand sculpted by a Yixing artist. The gold coins done in a buff color clay adds a nice contrast to the dark body of the toad. Color beads on the toad add interest.
