Compacta Japanese Holly

Ilex crenata 'Compacta' The versatile Compacta Holly, also called Japanese, or boxleaf holly, is much used here at Toms Creek because its handsome, dark-green, shiny foliage adds texture to shrub beds and borders, as well as to foundation, mass, or hedge plantings.   LOW MAINTENANCE It is a dense-form, mounding that is slightly wider than it is high. Prefers slightly acid soils. Can be sheared. Easy to prune.  The Compact Japanese Holly is a fantastic substitute for boxwood in hotter, humid areas where boxwood does not thrive, and an excellent dense evergreen bush for any location.
