A Very Interesting & RARE Large Antique 17th-18th Century European Bronze Bell.  The Bell depicts (unidentified) raised marking around the top with several "Fleur-de-lis".  Large size bell is for a Church, Mission or for use on a large ship.  Iron clapper is intact.  The bell has a long crack and has a very pleasing green-brown age patina.  The suspension section shows wear from being suspended from a piece of leather, rope, or chain.  Very heavy.  A fantastic looking bell ! RESEARCHING... The bell is cast with unidentified raised markings around the top. Overall Measures - 19" high, almost 14.5" in diameter.  SOME HISTORY: Possibly associated with "I H S" ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.   The New World- Catholics and the Colonies Efforts to set up a permanent settlement by the Spanish in the 16th century were mostly unfruitful, until French Huguenots threatened their trade routes by settling at the St. John’s River in modern day Jacksonville at Fort Caroline.
