Kornerupine is one of the rarest gems on earth, and anything over 1 ct. is considered large.  Though there is a fair dusting of sugar crystals, the gem is blissfully free of dislocations, veils, AND silk.   I consider myself to be something of an expert on this gem type, and I can hardly believe I have the absolute privilege of holding an example of this size in my hands.
