USDA Certified Organic The Black Twig apple tree is an old Tennessee variety introduced around 1830 as a seedling on the farm of Major Rankin Toole. It was said, the Black Twig apple tree produced Andrew Jackson's favorite apple. The Black Twig apple is the ultimate in a tart apple; fine for fresh eating and tannic acid which adds body to cider. The Black Twig apples are medium to large with varying color, usually green to yellow skin that is streaked and flushed red to burgundy. The yellow flesh is firm and fine grained with tannic juice that adds a kick to sweet or hard cider. The Black Twig apples are excellent keepers and should be stored in the refrigerator for peak flavor.
