Mud Pendant Light
These small and sculptural ceramic pendant lights are handcrafted by members of SWOPA, a women’s organization for traditional arts in northern Ghana. They are formed with the ancient coil technique from clay gathered from a local river bed, and then fired in a pit kiln. This is a pottery tradition passed down through generations of women. As each mud pendant is formed by hand, each piece has a unique conical shape. And as they are baked in fire, their finishes vary depending on their position in the pit kiln, from warm chocolate brown, to deep charcoal black, to a combination of the two. You are welcome to make a virtual or in-person appointment to choose yours.
