Pyritized Ammonite
A lustrous Ammonite fossil packed with Pyrite! This Jurassic Period ammonite fossil comes from the Ryazan region of western Russia. The ammonite fossil has been replaced by the mineral Pyrite, with druzy crystals of Pyrite visible inside the hollow growth chambers of the ammonite shell! Ammonites are an extinct variety of sea creatures that swam the shallow seas millions of years ago. As the shell fossilizes, it is naturally replaced by the mineral pyrite, creating shiny and golden colorations. Part of the shell naturally dissolved away, exposing the amazing pyritized growth chambers inside! The top of this specimen has been lightly polished. Approx. 1.9" L x 1.5" W x .25" Depth Need a display stand? If you would like a clear acrylic stand to display your specimen vertically or horizontally with a slight tilt forward, we recommend adding Stand A1 to your cart.
