Self Diffusion - Original Painting

Dimensions (l x w): 8 in x 8 in / 20.32 cm x 20.32 cm  Materials: Fluid acrylic on stretched cotton canvas Self Diffusion was created in two parts. Part one was a puddle pour, directing the yellow-orange pale skin tone in striations with white. Step two was creating multiple small swipes, using fluid alizarin crimson along the edges of my trowel knife to give the extreme variation in intensity. Directing the movement to flow right, the graininess in highly saturated areas is reminiscent of blood coagulating. This abstraction of flesh and blood aims to normalize identifying oneself as more than skin-deep.
