Red Root Sage, Danshen - Salvia miltiorrhiza

A medicinal sage, salvia miltiorrhiza is a perennial herb with a very attractive blue/purple bloom, similar to other culinary sages. The red dried root of this plant is used in traditional Chinese medicine, and is what gives the plant the common name of red sage. It attracts hummingbirds as well as bees, and seems to handle summer heat quite well.
